Koncentrik Painting I - Elohim as Barrett Strong.jpg

BFA, Spring 2015
This portrait series communicates the determination and spirit of achievement shared universally by artists, and addresses existential and artistic concerns: questions of authorship, ownership, commodity production, and art reappropriation. I asked 68 musicians to pose for this series, and my rejection letters are physically incorporated into the paintings of those who agreed. In these portraits I explore an artist’s creative process, and questions about ownership and art appropriation. Once published, a song—or any art object—is reappropriated in many ways, and these portraits explore the psychological relationship between artist, artwork, and consumer in a commercial world.
