My art focuses on gender and identity. I paint portraits of myself and my friends who are transgender or identify outside of the gender binary. People who don’t conform to society’s norms for gender haven’t been portrayed positively and our identity is often hidden to make way for our safety when expressing ourselves in public. My portraits are a way to show them in a light that respects and honor them.
